The 5230 Nuron is a rare bird for Nokia: a subsidized smartphone for T-Mobile subscribers. At $69.99 with a two-year contract, it's much cheaper than buying one of Nokia's unlocked devices. And unlike the Nokia Surge ($79-$279, ) on AT&T, the Symbian-powered 5230 Nuron features a touch screen and an improved user interface. It's a good choice for social networking fans looking for plenty of e-mail and multimedia features, despite its stubborn touch screen.

Nokia X6 (Unlocked)

Nokia's first capacitive touch-screen phone, the Nokia X6 is a great upgrade for folks who loved the Nokia 5800 ($359.99 list, N/R). That may make it a smash in merry old England, but here in the U.S., almost nobody loved or even knew about the 5800. So, just like with the Nokia N97 mini ($479.99 direct, ), the X6 becomes a strange orphan: a phone designed to play to the faithful in a country where there aren't actually any faithful.

T-Mobile subscribers looking for a free flip phone should check out the Nokia 3711—even though it doesn't look like much. Underneath its drab surface are some pretty powerful features, including a proper mobile Web browser, 3G data speeds, and decent music and video playback. Nokia made a few poor design decisions with the hardware, but even so, it's worth a look.
